It’s National Farmers Market Week!

Hello Rosedale Family,

This Sunday marks the beginning of National Farmers Market Week! Help us kick off the city-wide celebration of community and local agriculture by stopping in for your favorite produce. We will be at 4020 Rainbow Blvd., KC, KS from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow! The article below features our market as a participant in the multi-million dollar grant program Double Up Food Bucks. We are incredibly excited to offer this program and would love for you to share the info with your family and friends!

Rosedale Farmers Market offers incentive for SNAP participants

The Rosedale Farmers Market has joined the Double Up Food Bucks program, a nutrition incentive program that helps low-income families eat more healthy food and supports local farmers.

Under Double Up, SNAP participants who shop at a participating farmers market can swipe their EBT cards to get tokens to use for food purchases. Under Double Up, people who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as food stamps) can swipe their EBT cards at the market information tent to buy SNAP tokens, and receive a matching number of Double Up Food Bucks tokens (up to $25 per day). They may use the SNAP tokens to buy any SNAP eligible items at the market, and use the Double Up Food Bucks tokens for any fresh fruits and vegetables. The Double Up tokens can be used any time before March 2019.

The Double Up Food Bucks program is funded by a $2.9 million USDA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive grant and $2.9 million in matching funds from private foundations and local governments, for a total of $5.8 million. Over the next three years, coalition partners will expand Double Up to 68 farmers markets and 117 grocery stores in the Kansas City and St. Louis metro areas, eastern Kansas, and central and southwest Missouri.

The Double Up Heartland Coalition is led by the Mid-America Regional Council; Cultivate Kansas City; Douglas County, Kansas; the East-West Gateway Council of Governments in St. Louis; and the Fair Food Network.

More information is available online at www.DoubleUpHeartland.org.

Update:

Our wonderful SFMNP program through the state of Kansas begins in June and is open for registration while supplies last. Rosedale Farmers Market has used up our allotted 150 voucher booklets. We are very thankful you’ve passed the word to friends and family. Please remember we will be a registration site again in the 2017 season. If you have signed up for SFMNP vouchers you are absolutely able to spend those through the end of this market season, September 25th.
